Nursery evolution - Day 1 cntd

*taps speaker* Hello? Can you hear me? Is this thing working? Ok, lets try this again.

So my last post was talking about how I cleaned out the closet. Here is all of the stuff that was in the closet. All of the containers in the back left were filled with crap and the large box is the beginning of my give away box. Hopefully this week I can get my hanging fabric organizer moved into the other room and then get to work on sorting out the trunk. It's mostly filled with old journals of mine and mementoes so that is going to be tough to weed through.

I also found some fun stuff for the nursery. First up is the small wall hanging/quilt my aunt made as a wedding present for us. I'm thinking of hanging this above the crib or possibly above where we will put the glider chair. I want to make sure it is safe from random fluids since it was a present and rather precious to me.

Meow! This is a cat latchhook that I made a while ago. The back is quilted so I'm thinking of stuffing it with a thick foam and using it as a baby pad/second bed (only used under our supervision of course). I also may just hang it on the wall, we'll see.

Meet Teddy :) My dad made this awesome baby decoration. Each piece was separately hand crafted, stained, and finished. I think it's pretty darn awesome myself

My awesome Indian boy painting. This painting has been at my parent's house since I can remember and I love putting it up in the nursery.

Nursery evolution - Day 1 (plus random stuff)

Oh boy, have we got our work cut out for us! Today I ventured into the now chinchilla/sewing room to begin it's transformation into the nursery. The plan for right now is to clean, organize, and get rid of stuff as I move it into the old nursery/now sewing and chinchilla room.

The room is already a bit of a disaster zone. It's the catch all for my random stuff as well as the chinchilla zone. It is a good 5' larger than our other room thanks to the small alcove on the right side which is why we are thinking it will be a better nursery.

Hello disaster zone (and dog, she was helping). We are planning on taking the top set of cubbies and turning it sideways so that is long and short and then filling baskets with baby stuff. The lower cubbies will go into the other room and continue to hold all of my yarn and stuff. Scott wants to repaint the walls and calls that color "baby poop yellow". I think it's fine and don't want to repaint, seeing as how he didn't paint it in the first place and I'm sick of painting the house. It's "honey sand" according to the swatch anyway.

Here is the closet. It's actually much bigger than it looks and dad and I have worked out an awesome plan for making it hold a ton of stuff. There is about 6" between the edge of the closet and the edge of the door, so that space is going to be filled with 4 shelves and clothes rods on both sides. This will give good space for all of those little things like bottles, unopened packages, and whatever else little stuff happens to find its way ito the nursery. Then I'm going to get a small hanging shoe organizer "thing" similar to the brown one already in there but smaller, cut in half, and use that for all the little clothes, cloths, bibs, etc.
(More to come later, blogger and my computer are not getting along right now)

Bought the crib.

Well, we have officially made our first baby purchase! We ended up going with the Graco Lauren convertible crib in Cherry finish. We got it for only $140 including taxes with free shipping thanks to the "ship to store" offer that Wal-Mart has going on. I've also been looking at a lot of bedding lately so we will probably start getting that.

I suppose we should work on the nursery before getting a lot of this taken care of though. I cleaned out the closet in the old nursery/now sewing room so tomorrow I'm going to start moving what I can over and sorting through all of the stuff in the now sewing room/will be nursery so that we can start getting everything situated.

I'm also a bit in shock to realize that my birthday is only 8 days away! When on earth did March roll around?

Product Ideas

So many little things needed for a less than 20 pound human! I've had my eye on a couple of cribs and need to decide soon so we can order one and be sure it gets here in time!

The first is the Canton 4-in-1 convertable crib in espresso from Target. The price is great at under $300, the reviews I've found were positive, and I love the smooth curves.

I also love the Graco Lauren collection that I found at ToysRUs. Also a convertible the Graco Lauren classic has the same espresso/walnut color that I love and is about $100 cheaper which you can't beat. Also had great reviews and is available for in store pick up. The version they have on display at my local store has smooth curves verses the straight edge in the online image.

I also got really excited in ToysRUs when I saw the Fisher Price Space Saver Chair. We were playing with the display at the store and it seemed really sturdy and easy to use. I also liked how it could recline further back and be another seat for the baby even before they start eating firmer food. I also like the idea that it can be used on any chair so we could bring it to restaurants or to our relatives houses without having to drag around an entire chair unit.

Project Nursery

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately! All our home improvement got put on hold thanks to a lack of funds for the bigger projects and lack of time for the smaller ones. I also found out I was pregnant in November which resulted in much napping and not much doing of things! We have been trying to conceive since Sept '09 so it was certainly a long and emotional journey.

It was a very rough first trimester but I spare you the details. Long story short I was at the ER twice for threatened miscarriage and fainted once in the grocery store. Absolutely no lifting over 10 pounds, pushing heavy objects, or over-exerting myself. At work I was totally "that" pregnant lady who basically sat at the desk the entire time and called out frequently for spontaneous doctor visits and came in late because of the extreme exhaustion/morning sickness.

Now we are just under 5 months and feeling a ton better. Hopefully whatever was causing the issues has subsided and on Feb 11th we got to see our beautiful baby girl (eeee!) through the ultrasound. That was one of the coolest experiences ever. She was rolling around, waving at us, rubbing her eyes, and at one point stuck her little feet right in front of the camera. The doctor is 99% that the baby is girl but since this was our only planned ultrasound throughout the pregnancy there is always the chance that we will get a surprise.

(In picture the head is to the right side, then the belly, then the legs are curled up towards the chest. The straight white line on the left top is the leg bone (how weird is that) and the little bubble looking white lights on the right side (above the head) are actually her curled up hands rubbing her eyes.)

Here's her face, just because I love looking at pictures. It's so incredible to think she was only 5 ounces and about 5" long when these were taken. The top of the head is to the right side and her profile is facing up and slightly away from the camera. The white above her head is her hand (going "no, don't look at me, it's only 8am and far too early)

Now we are getting into full swing of nursery craziness. I'm still not ready to start purchasing but we are trying to get ideas for where we want to go. The current plan is that we are going to move the chinchilla into the green room (which we thought would be the nursery) and use her room as the nursery. It's slightly bigger and will give us a bit more storage space. We probably won't repaint so the honey beige color on the walls will hopefully translate well to a nursery as well.
